Caipirinha a drink from Brazil that will make you dance Samba!

Brazil is a charming Latin American country! It has gorgeous women, great soccer teams, and very fun and colorful traditions. They are filled with heritage from Portugal, Italy, and from the ancient Indians. This combination can be pretty explosive when it comes to their food and drinks. What I love about their cocktails is that they are always cold and citric.

To decorate just serve a slice of lemon in your glass.

My best friend has Brazilian parents and he obviously knows certain things about their culture because he was raised that way. He was the one that showed me how to prepare a rad Caipirinha. Brazil can be pretty hot as far as the weather (and the ladies :D) this is why they drink a very cold Caipirinha to calm their thirstiness. If you add a little bit of alcohol to the original mix, then you will have a great cocktail for a special occasion or dinner.
Caipirinha is considered the most popular drink in Brazil, and it's very common to drink it all around Latin America. This is a drink that defines us, is sort of like the South American Margarita! Its prepared with Cachaza alcohol that comes from the sugar canes. This type of alcohol is only produced in Brazil but you can find it in many places because they export it!
Some believe that it was initially prepared as a medicine to ease the effects of the Spanish Flu towards the end of World War I. You might not know, but the original recipe was prepared by mixing cachaça, green lemon, honey, and garlic- all curative ingredients.

Ingredients:
- 4 slices of lemon
- 2 teaspoons of sugar (if you like more, you can add more)
- 1 cup of crushed ice
- 14 ml (1.5 - 2.5 ounces) of cachaza.
Steps to prepare it:
- Cut the lemon into slices. I told you that Brazilian cocktails are always citric, so you will use the lemon a lot!
- Place the lemon slices and the sugar in a low glass (whiskey glass) and squeeze the lemon and the sugar together. You will have a sweet juice. Don't squeeze too much or your drink will be bitter.
- Add the ice. I recommend crushed ice.
- Now add the cachaza and mix it all very well. If you are looking for a stronger drink you can add 2.5 ounces of cachaza.

To decorate just serve a slice of lemon in your glass.
